I think we often overlook the hidden causes of incarceration, and we often blame folks for the worst thing that they’ve done. But when we look at the data, over 50% of folks who were incarcerated had no income up to eight years prior to their incarceration. A year prior, 80% had no income. Poverty is a tremendous driver.

Family Communication Suite

In 2022, Maine deployed Ameelio’s entire communication suite - including video calling, electronic messaging, and voice calls - in two of its facilities: Maine Correctional Center and Southern Maine Women's Reentry Center. We are excited to launch Ameelio Connect to the remaining four facilities. Loved ones are now able to communicate with any incarcerated person in Maine completely free of charge. Our system enables correctional staff to easily manage visitation requests, monitor calls, access recordings, and more. Ameelio’s platform not only democratizes access to free communication, but it saves departments an abundance of labor costs.

Education & Vocational Training Platform

Maine is leading the way in revolutionizing correctional education and vocational training. The Department of Corrections is interested in using Ameelio’s virtual education and job training platform, enabling its incarcerated population to access post-secondary education, vocational training, certifications, CBT, and much more. *** Launch date to be determined.

Providers-Reentry Communication Suite

Communication between the incarcerated and outside providers like reentry groups, parole and probation officers, pastors, clinicians, among others, is hampered by the limited functionality of existing services. To transform the status quo, Maine has committed to using Ameelio’s providers communication suite With this service providers of all kinds are able to support incarcerated populations prior to release in order to deliver critical support and programming. *** Launch date to be determined.

Mailroom & Ameelio Mail App

To solve its contraband issue, Maine began using Ameelio’s letters and postcard app for families, and our digital Mailroom scanning service for their correctional mail staff.

Tablet

While Ameelio’s software can work on any hardware, including existing DOC-owned computers and tablets, we also provide DOCs the option to purchase Ameelio’s proprietary ruggedized tablets. Maine will deploy Ameelio tablets inside its prisons, enabling their population to easily make calls, send e-messages, learn, access entertainment and much more.

Ameelio worked with our juvenile detention center to develop a platform for residents to have secure contact with their families, while also complying with PREA’s requirement for a truly anonymous way to report incidents. Ameelio customized the platform to fit our needs and did so expeditiously. Our system is live now, and we are very pleased with the benefits to our residents and their families.

White quotes

Ameelio provided the Iowa Department of Corrections with a secure platform that was easy for our incarcerated individuals, families, and our staff to use. Their training and support while deploying the system to all nine facilities were instrumental to the success. The feedback we continuously get from families, Incarcerated Individuals, and staff proves that Ameelio was the right choice!

I love this app and when I was in Loudon Co jail, I told all my fellow inmates about it. It truly makes a huge difference in your day behind bars when you get mail and it boosts your confidence knowing the world may keep on spinning without you but that there is at least someone that notices your absence and misses you.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

Petition

Communication is a vital lifeline for the more than 27 million Americans with an incarcerated loved one and the 2.3 million Americans behind bars. For nearly 30 years, Americans and their families have been exploited by the $3B for-profit prison telecom industry, which charges as much as $25 per 15-minute call. Join Ameelio to urge the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to adopt Connect and to enable families to stay in contact at no cost.
