FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ameelio Board of Directors Welcomes Three National Leaders in Systems Transformation, Impact Innovation, and Corrections Reform

BOSTON, MA — Ameelio, the nation’s first nonprofit technology provider for the justice system, today announced the appointment of Marina Nitze, Michael Belinsky, and Nicholas Deml to its Board of Directors. The addition of these three distinguished leaders comes at a pivotal moment as Ameelio scales its mission to connect families, disrupt exploitative markets, correct misaligned incentives in the corrections space, and sustain decarceration through human-centered technology.

Marina, Michael, and Nick bring a wealth of expertise in government modernization, impact investing, and large-scale systemic reform to Ameelio’s leadership. Their combined experience will support the next phase of Ameelio’s growth.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marina, Michael, and Nicholas to our Board of Directors,” said Zo Orchingwa, Co-Founder of Ameelio and Founding Director of the Board. “Each of these leaders has spent their career tackling some of the most complex challenges in the public and social sectors. Their strategic guidance will be invaluable as we continue to build the technological infrastructure necessary to transform correctional facilities into hubs of rehabilitation and opportunity.”

Meet the New Board Members:

Marina Nitze, Board Member

Marina is a leading expert in government technology and systems transformation, with deep experience restoring complex, mission-critical public infrastructure. She is currently a partner at Layer Aleph. She previously served as the Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where she helped build the first agency team within the U.S. Digital Service, and held senior technology roles in the Obama White House and the U.S. Department of Education. The co-author of Crisis Engineering and Hack Your Bureaucracy, Marina is currently a Fellow at New America’s New Practice Lab and has spent over two decades as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth.

Michael Belinsky, Board Member

Michael is a leader in impact investing, social innovation, and applied artificial intelligence strategy, currently serving as the Director of the AI Institute at Schmidt Sciences. He is the co-founder of Instiglio, a social enterprise that pioneered results-based financing models, where he led the development of one of the world’s first Development Impact Bonds. Previously, Michael was a principal at The Bridgespan Group, advising leading foundations and impact investors on strategy and execution while helping build the firm’s impact investing practice. Michael is a recipient of the Echoing Green Fellowship and was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for Social Entrepreneurship. He holds degrees from Dartmouth College and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Nicholas Deml

Nicholas is an attorney, former intelligence officer, and national leader in corrections reform currently serving as the federally appointed receiver for the New York City jail system. He previously led the Vermont Department of Corrections as Commissioner and founded the advisory firm Everly Bly & Co. Earlier in his career, Nicholas served as a clandestine officer in the CIA and as a U.S. Senate leadership aide focused on civil rights and national security. A member of the Council on Criminal Justice, he holds a J.D. from Marquette University Law School and has held numerous leadership roles in national corrections organizations.

“Three giants joined the Ameelio movement today,” said April Feng, CEO of Ameelio. “On behalf of team Ameelio, I thank Marina, Michael, and Nick for dedicating their smarts, passion, and decades of experience to bringing light into some of the most neglected places in this country, and hope to all those who spend time behind bars - incarcerated people and the correctional officers alike. In the past five years, we have worked ridiculously hard to fundamentally transform how corrections and rehabilitation are done in this country. With Marina, Michae,l and Nick, I know for sure that it can be done.”

Marina, Michael, and Nick, welcome to Ameelio!
